Roper signs with European pro team

Former Hawaii center Christen Roper has signed a contract to play professional basketball in Europe, the university announced yesterday.

Roper signed a one-year contract to play for the Universa BC Marburg Marlins of Germany's Federal Basketball League. The team won the division last season and represented Germany in the Europe Cup.

The 6-foot-5 center signed a free-agent contract with the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs in the spring and competed in training camp and two exhibition games before being cut in May.

Roper played 117 games with the Rainbow Wahine and holds the Hawaii and Western Athletic Conference career record for shots blocked.

Rainbow Wahine on College Sports television

Two of the Hawaii volleyball team's matches this fall will be televised on College Sports Television, a 24-hour college sports network.

CSTV will show one non-conference and one Western Athletic Conference match in addition to televising the WAC tournament championship in November.

The Rainbow Wahine's match vs. Santa Clara on Sept. 28 and a WAC battle against Nevada in Honolulu on Oct. 5 will be shown.
