>> Turtle Bay Resort has appointed John Rust as director of sales, Kim Silvaggio as national sales manager, Henry Lacar as director of property operations and Rob Dalzell as chef de cuisine. Rust has more than seven years of marketing experience in the hospitality industry, most recently as director of sales at the Hard Rock Hotel Bali. Silvaggio will be responsible for Mainland business from Orange County, San Diego, the Southwest, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Silvaggio has 12 years of hospitality management experience, most recently representing the Grand Isla Navidad Resort in Manzanillo, Mexico. Lacar is returning to Turtle Bay, where he first worked in 1988 as assistant director of property operations. Six years later, Lacar left to become the assistant director at Ihilani Resort and Spa, where he was quickly promoted to director. Dalzell will work with Executive Chef Andrew Copley on the culinary programs and menus at each of the resort's dining outlets as well as its conference and banquet services.

>> Maryknoll School has hired Patrick Gagen to head its high school softball program. He will oversee the program and serve as varsity head coach. Gagen will also oversee the school's intermediate softball team. He has nearly 20 years of experience in athletics. He coached the 2001 Swiss National Women's softball team, while also directing a club team in Basel, Switzerland.

>> AIG Valic has hired Michael A. Moss, Brian Kawano, Krystal Emge, Tucker Torigoe, Bert Nakamura and Albert Lee as financial advisors specializing in retirement savings. All six were formerly with Hawaii Benefits Inc., which is being dissolved in the wake of losing its administration contract for the state's Deferred Compensation Plan. Moss, former president and chief executive officer of HBI, will serve as a branch manager at AIG Valic. Kawano has more than 20 years experience in the retirement planning industry. Emge has 25 years experience in the industry. Torigoe was a plan representative and administrator at HBI. Nakamura has more than 35 years of experience in financial services. Lee was a retirement plan administrator in HBI's distribution department.

Promotions

>> Coffee Partners has created two positions at its Starbucks Coffee and Jamba Juice franchises. June Plain was promoted to human resources and training manager, and Corinne Shiroma was promoted to recruiter. Plain oversees training of all employees for Starbucks and Jamba Juice. She has worked at Coffee Partners since 1996, starting as a barista at Starbucks Kahala Mall. Plain was most recently human resources administrator. Shiroma oversees the hiring of employees and facilitates job fairs for both Starbucks and Jamba Juice. She began her career with Starbucks in 2001 as a shift supervisor at the Ewa Town Center location. Shiroma was most recently store manager at Starbucks Mililani.

On the Board

>> Paul Brown has been named to the board of directors of the International Chain Salon Association, a trade and advocacy group, Brown has owned beauty salons and spas in Hawaii for more than three decades. His four current sites are at Ward Centre, Kailua and Waikele on Oahu; and at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel on the Big Island.

>> Hawaiian Islanders has formed a strategic board of advisers consisting of: Charles Wang, owner of the New York Islanders and New York Dragons; Bill Walsh, National Football League Hall of Fame member; David Carey, Outrigger Enterprises chief executive officer; Vicky Cayetano, United Laundry president; Mitch D'Olier, CEO of the Castle Foundation and Kaneohe Ranch; June Jones, University of Hawaii football coach; Ken Stanford, JN Automotive Group general manager; and David Wilson, president of McNeil Wilson Communication Inc. The board will meet regularly to discuss strategies for strengthening the Islanders' arena football fan base, develop community relations and sponsorship programs, and create player development programs.

>> The Hawaii State Chapter of American Red Cross has named Robert Fujioka to board chairman for 2003-04. He is executive vice president of commercial banking at First Hawaiian Bank and previously served as vice chairman. Other officers are: Vice Chairwoman Lisa Menor, Hartley Foundation controller and vice president; Treasurer Norman Chong, Arcadia Retirement Residence chief financial officer; and Secretary Dew Anne Langcaon, Hawaii Pacific Health executive vice president.
