The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Earnings buoy A&B
Alexander & Baldwin Inc., which posted a 75.8 percent increase in second-quarter earnings, closed in on a 52-week high this week to highlight action in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The parent of Matson Navigation Co. rose 1.4 percent to $27.56, just off its year high of $27.90 hit on July 14.
Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. posted the index's best performance as it gained 23.1 percent to 8 cents, its highest finish in nearly 10 months.
Central Pacific Financial Corp., which has been stymied in its bid to acquire CB Bancshares Inc., was the worst performer with a 7 percent decline to $25.62.
