YES TO HONOLULU
COURTESY PHOTO
The longtime English progressive rock band Yes, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, will perform with the Honolulu Symphony at 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Blaisdell Arena. The concert is not part of the orchestra's regular season, but was added when the group became available. For some time, the symphony has been wanting to attract new audiences, and the band is back to its original lineup of Jon Anderson (pictured), Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman and Alan White. Some 6,000 tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, for $45 and $65 at the Blaisdell Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and through the Honolulu Symphony box office at 792-2000.

[MOVIE PREVIEW]
These are the movies opening Friday:
"Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" >> The "Tomb Raider" sequel starring Angelina Jolie has been described by the star with three words: "Darker. Sexier. Smarter." Despite a $48 million opening weekend in 2001 (the record-holder for a film with no male lead), the videogame-based original got flak for its weak story. But more human elements are promised along with the adventure sequences, as archaeologist and explorer Croft travels once again to exotic locations, this time to search for Pandora's Box, with two bad guys after the potential doomsday weapon. (PG-13)
"Seabiscuit" >> Based on the best-selling book about the unlikely equine champion who became a Depression-era sensation, the movie stars "Spider-Man" Tobey Maguire (he worked with director Gary Ross on 1998's "Pleasantville") as Red Pollard, the boxer-turned-jockey who, despite being blind in one eye, rode the grumpy, bowlegged horse into history. Oscar-winner Chris Cooper ("Adaptation") plays the horse's trainer and Jeff Bridges plays the automobile magnate who owned the great thoroughbred. (PG-13)
"Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" >> It's another year and another "Spy Kids" movie. But this time, franchise creator Robert Rodriguez throws 3-D effects into the mix and thanks to high-definition digital moviemaking advances, there's nothing cumbersome about it. This time, Cortez siblings Carmen and Juni (Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara) are put into a dangerously immersive videogame designed by an evil genius played by Sylvester Stallone. Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino and Ricardo Montalban return as well, and look for a cameo by George Clooney. (PG)
