The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Maui Land takes lead
Maui Land & Pineapple Co., continuing its recent surge, rose 3.4 percent this week to take over as the top performing stock this year in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. MLP, which has been seeking a new president and chief executive and is in the process of selling two shopping centers, is now up 62.6 percent for 2003.
The previous leader, City Bank parent CB Bancshares Inc., inched up 0.5 percent to lift its year-to-date gain to 62.1 percent. CB is the target of a hostile takeover by rival Central Pacific Financial Corp.
