Pegasus maintains lead in Transpac race

Despite light ocean winds, Pegasus 77 stretched its lead over Pyewacket by 35 miles in the 42nd Transpacific Yacht Race.

Pegasus, still 1,224 miles away from the Diamond Head finish, covered 249 miles yesterday to open up a 43-mile lead over Pyewacket in the Division 1 race of what has been a slow crossing from California to Hawaii.

Only eight of the 54 boats in the race covered 200 miles yesterday. None of the boats are projected to reach Diamond Head by July 14. Four are projected to finish as late as July 18.

Arceneaux activated by Islanders

The Hawaiian Islanders activated quarterback Darnell Arceneaux from the long-term injured reserve list yesterday, making him eligible to play in tomorrow's arenafootball2 game at Tulsa.

Arceneaux missed the Islanders' last five games with a hairline fracture in his right (throwing) hand. Mike Tillis has led Hawaii to a 3-2 record in his absence.

Arceneaux started the first eight games of the season and passed for 1,491 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Hawaii linebacker/receiver Darrick Branch was also activated for tomorrow's game. Linemen Tony Tata and Matt Elam were reassigned to af2.

Viloria puts NABF title on the line

Waipahu flyweight Brian Viloria's next fight will be on ESPN's Tuesday Night Fights July 22 from Pismo Beach, Calif.

Viloria (12-0, 7 Kos) will defend his North America Boxing Federation title against Luis Doria of Columbia. Doria is 17-8-2 with 10 KOs with wins in his last three fights after a five-bout losing streak. He beat Ronald Ramos on points in August and will be fighting for the first time in the United States.

Viloria last fought in April, when he beat Valentin Leon by TKO in the eighth round at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom.
