I'VE BEEN hearing some good things about DJ Bennie James' old school R&B night on Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Cafe Sistina.
James, who also does a show on KTUH-FM, promises not to play any top 40 the entire night, sticking with a mellow blend of jazz and neo-soul to compliment his R&B stylings.

Six different games were produced for this promotion, and they're actually challenging enough to provide some mindless fun in the office when you just don't feel like working -- not that I would know anything about that kind of behavior ...
HEAD INTO Waikiki tonight for the latest "Concert in the Courtyard" at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. Herb Ohta, Jr., Weldon Kekauoha, Maunalua, Jon Yamasato and the Langley Ukulele Ensemble will be on hand to perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Tomorrow night brings Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom to the hotel for a performance on KFVE's "Hot Hawaiian Nights" broadcast, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free for both concerts; call 931-3111 ...
AND DON'T sleep on Studio 1 this weekend -- Kavet the Catalyst brings his "Trip the Lights" party back to the downtown venue tomorrow night, and the Stone Groove Family's G-Dog and Sub Zero will team up with Pussycat Projects' Flash Hansen and Split 101's Russ Inouye to unveil "Club 1" for the first time on Saturday ...
