Norman Marks, left, and Myra Guce held up a hand- woven carpet made from fibers of the abaca tree. The fibers are so strong they are used to make marine ropes, Marks said. The two were preparing the Natural Carpet Co./Surface Mills Inc. booth for the Hawaii Lodging, Hospitality & Foodservice Expo, which begins today at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.
