2 men charged
for possession of
$1 million in drugs
Federal prosecutors have charged two men who allegedly had about $1 million worth of methamphetamine delivered to them in a television set last week.
According to a federal affidavit filed yesterday, Drug Enforcement Agency and Honolulu police officers working together on Thursday intercepted a TV set that contained 3,959 grams -- nearly nine pounds -- of methamphetamine. The TV was in a box labeled "Philips Television" and addressed to a Kaliwa Street business.
The affidavit said that at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, police and DEA agents saw the box being delivered to the Sand Island address where two men, identified as Shayne Crisolo and Eric Collier, were waiting in the parking lot in a Lexus sedan. Law enforcement agents said Crisolo exited the Lexus and accepted delivery of the box, then the men took the television out of the box and put it in the back seat.
Later, at 5:20 p.m., agents observed the Lexus parked on Eluwene Street in Kalihi.
When Crisolo returned to the Lexus at 7:30 p.m., police units attempted to block the vehicle, but Crisolo fled on foot, according to the affidavit. Police arrested him 15 minutes later, and he agreed to cooperate with authorities, it says.
The affidavit states that Crisolo told police and DEA agents that Collier was the intended recipient of the box but that Crisolo was told that if he accepted delivery of it, Collier would give him some crystal methamphetamine, or "ice," for personal use.
The affidavit does not indicate when Collier was arrested, where the drugs came from or who may have sent them. Officials from the DEA, HPD and U.S. attorney's office did not return telephone calls seeking additional information.
Collier and Crisolo were charged with attempting to possess and distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine.
