>> Setup man Jeff Coleman (Hawaii) earned his first win of the season by allowing only one base runner in two innings of Modesto's 4-1 win over Bakersfield.

>> Infielder Kaulana Kuhaulua (Waianae, Los Angeles C.C., Long Beach State)pitched his second inning of the year Thursday, holding the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scoreless for an inning of a 12-2 loss. Kuhaulua's previous appearance came in a blowout loss in April.

>> Tyler Yates (Kauai, Hawaii-Hilo)got a little bit more competition for the Mets' closer job in the future, as Royce Ring joined Yates with Class AA Binghamton after arriving in the organization from the Chicago White Sox in the Roberto Alomar trade. Ring will be the closer for the club, while Yates, who gave up his first runs in his third start last week, will stay in the rotation.

>> Chad Santos (Saint Louis School)doubled off Shane Komine (Kalani, Nebraska) to help his Wichita Wranglers beat Komine's Modesto A's 1-0 Monday. Komine struck Santos out in his first at-bat and got him three other times.

"I thought he was going to break something off, and instead he paints the black with a fastball," Santos told the Wichita Eagle. "He's got like four pitches. The guy's just good. We never faced each other in high school, but he was always in the newspaper. He's a good guy. We talked after the game about how there's more Hawaiians in baseball every year."
