Family Day in Waikiki
offers fun for all ages

Among the festivities lined up for the Fourth of July weekend is tomorrow's Family Day, a community celebration of pride and patriotism in honor of Hawaii's keiki and members of America's armed forces.

Running until 9:30 p.m., Family Day will open with a 10 a.m. parade from Fort DeRussy to Kapiolani Park along Kalakaua Avenue, with floats, the HPD horse unit, local and mainland bands, the new Zoo Train and costumed characters such as Pineapple Pete and Chuck E. Cheese.

At the park bandstand, food and entertainment also await, followed by concerts in the park as well as Sunset on the Beach, beginning at 4 p.m. at Queen's Surf Beach. There will be an evening fireworks display accompanied by the patriotic sounds of the Hawaii Air National Guard Band, followed by a screening of "Lilo & Stitch" at 8 p.m. on the city's 30-foot screen.
