Suit alleges Saint Louis
coach hurt a player
The parents of a former Saint Louis School football player are accusing a former assistant coach of assaulting their son during practice in September 2001.
Matthew and Clarisse Houar filed suit in Circuit Court yesterday on behalf of their son Michael. Named as defendants in the suit are then-assistant coach and sports information director Georges Gilbert, former head coach Cal Lee and Saint Louis School.
According to the suit, Gilbert, at Lee's instruction, assaulted and battered Michael Houar twice on Sept. 8, 2001.
The suit says the school was negligent in hiring and supervising Lee and Gilbert, and failed to take reasonable steps to prevent harm to Houar, who suffered serious injury. The Houars are seeking damages in an amount to be determined at trial.
Lee, Gilbert and school officials could not be reached for comment. The Houars also could not be reached for comment.
Late last month, Lee, who was serving as Saint Louis' athletic director, announced he was leaving his post and joining the University of Hawaii Warriors as linebacker coach. He is also head coach of the arenafootball2 Hawaiian Islanders.
Gilbert, assistant athletic director, also resigned and is expected to begin his new job this month as assistant to Interscholastic League of Honolulu Executive Director Don Botelho.
