And they can’t take
a shower afterward

ONE OF the most singularly sexy shows seen in Hawaii will be on view in Maui July 28 to Aug. 1, and we're not talking Loni Anderson or David Hasslehoff here. It's called "Sex and the Sea Week" and it'll be held at Maui Ocean Center. It'll give viewers some insights they'd never thought they'd see, such as what goes on "between the reefs." Aquarium guests who fork over $20 can see what happens when there aren't enough males in a certain species of fish, how baby sharks are made and can witness how sedentary animals such as corals and sea anemones are able to mate without even moving. (No smart remarks about your husbands, ladies.) There will also be a "Spawning Spectacle" which sounds like it might be X-rated, watching rice coral spawn, and yes, drinks will be served. During the spawning, polyps release bundles containing both egg and sperm, visible to the naked eye, so to speak. They break apart and the sperm is left to fend for itself before eggs become fee-swimming larvae and some get lucky, settling on a hard surface and establishing a whole new colony. Why didn't Jack Cione ever think about this as an attraction at his Dunes nightclub? ...

Hi, Lowe

COULD actor Rob Lowe be getting in shape for a new TV series? Could be. The "West Wing" alum, who's been holidaying at the Kahala Mandarin was spotted the other day jogging solo along the beach. Plugged into his Walkman, Lowe was dressed in a plain, white T-shirt, black surfer "baggies" and tennis shoes. And since he wore no sunglasses or hat, several people recognized him and he would occasionally stop to give out an autograph ...

THE second half of the four-hour movie about the Jon Benet Ramsey killing in Boulder, Colo., airs tonight on KGMB. The first two hours ran Monday night. The movie was produced and directed by Lawrence Schiller, based on his book of the same name, "Perfect Murder, Perfect Town." Schiller is the brother of local adman Marty Schiller who created the "Prepare Yourself for the Forces of Mother Nature" campaign for the Hawaii State Hazard Mitigation Forum ...

YOU get the idea that Loren Shim of Aston Hotels prefers alternate transportation? Recently he was on Maui taking a canoe ride at the Aston Kaanapali Shores Resort. And he was also spotted riding the new Honolulu Zoo Express train. Small wonder, since it's sponsored by Aston to carry passengers on a tour of the Zoo's property, a boon to those who don't like to -- or are unable -- to walk the considerable distance ... Remember Dion, who used to sing with the Belmonts in the '60s? Promoter Tom Moffatt has learned he's on tour again and is trying to line him up for a July 25 date at the Arena ...

Spec-tacular

SOME say, "You've seen one, you've seen them all." Not merchant marine navigator Bob Moore, that's for sure. He was was taken by the eyeglasses at InSpecs at Ward Warehouse that in the past year he's bought 15 pair in different colors and shapes at $40 a copy ...
