Sansei celebrates Year 1

Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar will celebrate the first anniversary of its Kihei, Maui, location on July 19 with a benefit for the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center.

The evening begins with a 5 p.m. champagne and sake tasting, followed by dinner seatings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The six-course menu, with wine pairings, was designed by chefs from the various Sansei locations. It includes Grilled Marinated Sweet Thai Chile Jumbo Prawn Nigiri, Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras & Sunny Side Up Quail Egg, Pan Roasted Fresh Onaga with Oxtail Ravioli, Savory Crab Pudding with Seared Local Ahi, Grilled Petite Filet Mignon & Poached Lobster Medallion, and dessert of Lilikoi and Banana Nut Napoleon, Tropical Fresh Fruit Compote and Kauai Lychee Sorbet.

Fourth of July events

Both these events offer a view of the Magic Island fireworks show on Friday:

Ala Moana Hotel: Friday's All-American barbecue at the Ginger Terrace includes New York steak, ribs and grilled chicken. Entertainment is by Simplisity. Prices start at $11, with seatings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Call the concierge at 808-955-4811.

Sheraton Princess Kaiulani: Pikake Terrace offers a seafood dinner buffet through the holiday weekend. The menu varies over the three nights but includes seafood on ice, grilled items, salad and dessert bars. Entertainment is by Sam Kapu and his keiki dancers on Friday, and Raiatea Helm on Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $28.95; call 922-5811. The hotel is offering a $60 kamaaina rate for the three nights. "Seasons" Sake Dinner: Fashion show by Anne Namba will be featured along with a seven-course dinner paired to premium junmai and daiginjo sakes, 6 p.m. July 10 at 3660 on the Rise. The menu: Oyster on the Half-Shell with Ginger Vinaigrette and Tobiko Caviar, Scallop and Shiitake Mushroom Chawan Mushi, Grilled Indian Prawn, Ahi Carpaccio with Ikura, Fire Roasted Duck Breast, Shiitake Mushroom Crusted Beef Tenderloin and Lychee Ice Cream. Wines of the Pacific Northwest: Wine and food tasting, 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at Meritage Restaurant. Featured Washington state wines: Chateau St. Michelle, Columbia Winery, Sokol Blosser, Snoqualmie, Covey Run and Red Diamond. Cost is $35. Call 529-8686.

Robert Mondavi Global Wine Dinner: Kapalua Bay Hotel & Ocean Villas celebrates the winemaker's 90th birthday July 12 at the Bay Club restaurant. The menu by Kapalua chef Noah Bekofsky and guest chef Russell Siu, of 3660 on the Rise, features the debut of the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve.
