The ‘Angels’ descend
on the lucky media

PRODUCERS of "Char-lie's Angels -- Full Throttle" have been working overtime getting publicity out on the film. On Monday night, they had both major talk shows covered with Cameron Diaz in a peek-a-boob outfit cut to the waist on the Jay Leno "Tonight Show," discombobulating Leno, and Demi Moore flashing lots of leg on her first appearance on the David Letterman "Late Night Show" in six years. She plays the villainess in the film, while Diaz is joined by fellow "Angels" Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the good girls who don't mind kicking butt. Diaz talked about how in a recent visit to Hawaii where she learned to surf from Hans Hedemann whom she described as a great surfer, but a better teacher ...

LOOKING at local TV, on this week's "Emme's Island Living," hostess Emme Tomingbang talks with a guy who nearly had a fatal bang four years ago. That would be HPD chief Lee Donohue who suffered a heart attack. He'll talk with Emme about karate, cardiac arrest and coping with his life-altering experience. Then on July 5, Emme talks with singer Carole Kai and motivational speaker Pam Chambers about a subject usually discussed in doctors' offices or in whispers -- menopause ...

Erin go bra & bustier

MAKING a huge impression on nearly everyone attending the American Business Women's Association was speaker Erin Brockovich, who has tacked her last name Ellis to her moniker. Rather than the provocatively dressed character portrayed (accurately at the time) by Julia Roberts, Erin has gone from blonde to redhead. For that she can thank local stylist Paul Brown, who worked his magic the day before the lunch. Brockovich said she loves Hawaii and was married here (her third trip down the isle) to actor Eric Ellis in 1999. The luncheon, Erin revealed, was held on her 43rd birthday. One woman there, Waikiki Trade Center G.M. Daisy Yamada, was also celebrating her birthday and Brockovich happily posed for a photo with her "Cancer sister." Which birthday was it for Yamada? She merely allowed it wasn't her 43rd and left it at that ...

CANOES at the Ilikai copped top honors at the Taste of Honolulu, winning for best seafood, best salad and best dessert. That about covers the meal, doesn't it? One person not surprised was food and beverage manager Akira Moreno, who considered it validation of what guests are constantly telling him ...

Jewels and gem

RAINBOW collection co-owners Mary Lou Osmond and Karla Brom took Oakland jewelry designers Lee Brooks and Greg Franke to dinner at Singha Thai Monday night. The award-winning twosome won the Coty Fashion Award as "Alex & Lee." They did a trunk show over the weekend at Ala Moana, their first but likely not the last in Hawaii. The client list of the two is impressive: Cher, Angelica Huston, Liza Minelli and the irrepressible Elton John. Brooks and Franke's jewelry is featured in the current Harper's Bazaar ...
