Dude looks like a lady
Get ready for the 20th annual Universal ShowQueen Pageant, which has been described as "Hawaii's most extravagant pageant."
This event, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Renaissance Ilikai Ballroom, promises the "ultimate in the art of female impersonation. Put it this way: Most women in the audience will end up feeling like a disgrace to their gender and these contestants would put Pamela Anderson to shame."
The pageant draws contestants from around the world, and reigning Universal ShowQueen Miss Raven, who hails from Atlanta, Ga., will grace the stage for the crowning of the new ShowQueen.
The pageant started 19 years ago to enlighten society about the transsexual experience. Entrants compete in fashion model categories of "black and white," "couture cocktail," "evening gown" and "showgirl costume," rivaling those in Las Vegas. They'll also compete in a talent category.
The event is produced by Desiree St. Tropez and Jason Kina. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Tickets, at $30, are available at Diamond Head Video at 870 Kapahulu Ave. For more information, call 735-6066.
