Nocturnal Sound
swings into action

THE WORLD famous Nocturnal Sound Krew have got a couple of new parties worth checking out this summer -- one is a weekly on Friday nights, the other a monthly that gets its start on Saturday.

You know how there have been events lately that pair DJs in the mix with other forms of artwork? Spoken word, photography and even graffitti are a few that immediately come to mind. Tomorrow night, the Krew teams up with the Architechs to bring you "Laced Up," a hip-hop lifestyle event that focuses on the shoes people wear. Giveaways from Kicks are planned, and DJs Compose, Delve.oneder and Jami will be on the wheels until 2 a.m.

On Saturday the spot is Indigo when "Soul Kitchen" makes its debut for the 21-and-over crowd. Every third Saturday of the month DJs Eskae and Prynces Leya join Jami and Compose in the Opium Den, while DJs Seeko and Taharba hold it down in the Green Room. Check out www.nocturnal-sound.com for more info about both of these parties ...

CONGRATS TO the latest winner in the talent search going on at Don Ho's Island Grill on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Rita Yaber will return to Aloha Tower Marketplace later this year to compete against nine other finalists for a shot at a recording contract with Mountain Apple Records.

If you've got the courage -- and skills -- to take part, give Al Waterson a call at 947-5736 to sign up for this one ...

MOST OF the attention at the Taste of Honolulu this weekend at the Honolulu Civic Center will be on the food being served, but don't forget about the live entertainment that's also planned during the annual fundraiser for Easter Seals Hawaii.

Chant, Kapena, Rolando Sanchez with Salsa Hawaii and A Touch of Gold will perform tomorrow night, followed by Ale'a, Believe, the Country Side Band, DisGuyz, Five by Five, H20, Ho'onua, Omni, the Pacific Fleet Jazz Band and Stayin' Alive on Saturday. And Back to Back, Dita Holifield with the Next Big Thing, Eight-0-Eight, Makaha Sons, Maunalua, Native Blend, Next Generation and Slim Mango will wrap things up on Sunday ...

AND TICKETS go on sale this Saturday for New Found Glory at Pipeline. All ages are welcome at this one, and $20 gets you into the show on Aug. 5. Tickets will be available at the Blaisdell box office and all Foodland locations; call 526-4400 to order yours by phone ...
