Hawaii sailors finish second at nationals

The Hawaii sailing team saved its best for last on the final day of competition in the 2003 Intercollegiate Sailing Association championship. Hawaii earned a second-place finish in the North American Coed Dinghy Championship with 235 points.

The Rainbows were in search of a top-three finish in any of the three regattas (women's, team racing, coed), but had fallen short in the previous two championships.

Yesterday's finish came down to the wire. Hawaii was in third before the final two races of the regatta. The Rainbows snatched second place from St. Mary's College (Md.) after its B division team crossed the line in sixth and third while the Seahawks got double-digit performances from their B division team.

Sophomore Joey Pasquali and junior Steve Brown were skippers while senior Sarah Hitchcock and Adam DuMouchelle crewed for the B division, which finished second among B division teams.

Sophomores Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock competed in the A-division and ended the regatta in fourth in the A division.

Harvard (165) pulled off a rare double by winning the team racing national title and the coed dinghy championship.

It is the first coed dinghy championship since 1974 and the fifth in Harvard's history.
