Wahine sailor earns
All-America honors
University of Hawaii sailor Jennifer Warnock was named an ICSA/Ronstan Women's All-America honorable mention this week.
The junior from San Diego is the second UH female sailor to earn national honors. Warnock helped the UH coed sailing team to an eighth-place finish at the ICSA North American Team Race Championships on Friday in Detroit.
The Warriors will compete in the ICSA North American Dinghy Championships today. The UH team consists of skippers Bryan Lake, Joey Pasquali and Matthew Stine with Sarah Hitchcock, Kathryn Jackson and Warnock crewing.
Blangiardi, Helton, Semones at QB Club
Rick Blangiardi, the general manager of television stations KHON and KGMB, headlines the speakers' list at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Also on the program are University of Hawaii special teams coach Tyson Helton and Hawaiian Islanders assistant coach Doug Semones.
Lunch at the Pagoda Restaurant begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program following at noon. The event is open to the public. Lunch is $7.50 for HQC members, $8 for non-members.
Shooting, fencing open Aloha State Games
The annual Aloha State Games -- Hawaii's Olympic-style amateur competition -- opens next weekend with fencing and pistol shooting.
The month-long event starts with fencing at the Ala Wai Golf Course ballroom Saturday. Action pistol and bulls-eye pistol shooting will be held at the Koko Head Range next weekend.
Approximately 3,000 Hawaii residents are expected to participate in this year's ASG, with competition offered in 35 sports.
