Boston Pops goes native

Boston Pops officials have contacted Honolulu Symphony President Stephen Bloom, saying they wanted input on traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music for a Hawaiian-theme show they have planned. The Boston Pops people also want Hawaiian soloists and music charts. Steve, who has dealt with the Boston orchestra in the past, directed them to Honolulu Symphony Pops conductor Matt Catingub ... Matt and wife, Vicky, wrote a song honoring Symphony Chair Carolyn Berry called "A Work of Art," and Matt performed it at last Saturday's pops concert, bringing Carolyn to tears ...

Members of Diamond Head Theatre's bright "Chicago" cast doing numbers from the musical were hot, as was singer Sonya Mendez and Almost Paradise, at DHT's fund-raiser last Saturday at Waialae Country Club. They were part of a lively, fun-filled evening that raised $45,410. The silent auction, chaired by Uli Cutter and Mindy Tucker, pulled in $19,375 ...
