The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

CB stock gains
CB Bancshares Inc., trying to fight off a hostile takeover attempt by rival Central Pacific Financial Corp., rose 2.1 percent this week to lead 11 other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The parent of City Bank is up 56.1 percent this year after closing yesterday at $66.36. Central Pacific Bank's parent fell 1.4 percent to $27.06. CPF also is down 1.4 percent for the year.Meanwhile, Bank of Hawaii Corp. and Barnwell Industries Inc. continued hitting multiyear highs. Bank of Hawaii gained 1.7 percent to close yesterday at an all-time high of $35.50. Barnwell, which rose 1 percent, reached a 10-year high of $24.80 Wednesday before ending the week at $24.75.
