Quiban nixes
Carrey rumors
YOU MAY have heard on the radio, or read in a supermarket tabloid that former KHNL broadcast meteorologist Maria Quiban has been romantically linked with "Bruce Almighty" leading man Jim Carrey.
But Quiban, who works as a part-time actress in addition to her forecasting duties at Los Angeles' UPN affiliate, dismissed the reports as rumors when I spoke to her by phone.
"We met last fall and we also have mutual friends," Quiban explained. "We hung out a couple of times. ... We literally went out to grab some dinner twice. We're just friends."
Then again, do you think she'd actually tell me if they really were going out? Hmm ...
I'VE GOT TO give it up for the gang at Diamond Head Theatre. I went to a performance of "Follies" at the invitation of Tri-Star Restaurants' Yasmine Wycoco, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed the musical, based on the book by James Goldman.
Po'okela Award winner Cathy Foy turned in an excellent performance as "Sally," and I loved Wisa D'Orso's one-line bio in the program -- "I'm Still Here!" "Follies" has been extended through June 15 at DHT; call 733-0274 for tickets ...
