Hawaii fails to qualify
for NCAA championships


Hawaii's last chance to qualify athletes for the 2003 NCAA outdoor track and field championships ended yesterday. The Rainbow Wahine's final two participants finished out of the top five in their respective events to miss the meet slated for June 11-14.

Freshman Novelle Murray finished 32nd in the discus with a throw of 38.20 meters. The toss was about nine meters below the best toss of the season for the Western Athletic Conference champion in the discus.

Junior Olivia Smoody did not clear the qualifying height of 1.66 meters in the high jump.

Hawaii will have one more meet, the Sunset Series at Cooke Field June 4.

Players will coach at basketball camps

Participants at this month's Hawaii Rainbow Boys and Girls Basketball Camp will have an opportunity to work with members of the Rainbow Warrior squad and team coaches.

The players, who helped the Rainbow Warriors advance to the NCAA and NIT tournaments the last three seasons, will assist UH head coach Riley Wallace and his staff in running the camp set for June 10-15 at the UH athletic complex. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Forty-three spots remain for the camp which is open to boys and girls ages 5-17.

Three from UH to speak at QB club

Hawaii defensive backs coach Rich Miano, University of Hawaii senior women's administrator Marilyn Moniz Kaho'ohanohano, and assistant women's soccer coach Bob Barry will be the guest speakers at tomorrow's meeting of the Quarterback Club.

The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant. The program begins at noon and is open to the public.

Pearl City Young Guns to visit Cooperstown

The Pearl City Young Guns baseball team will be making a trip to baseball's Hall of Fame this month. The Young Guns will be in Cooperstown, N.Y., from June 14-19 to compete for the 10-and-under championship at Cooperstown Dreams Park.

Pearl City is one of 64 teams from across the nation to compete in seven tournament games.

Soccer's HSC Bulls going to regionals

David Semenza and the HSC Bulls shut out Lanikai Tuesday 2-0 at the Ala Wai fields to win their second straight Robledo Cup in soccer yesterday.

Richie Higa ended a scoreless game in the 53rd minute when he booted a goal to the far post and just out of reach of goalkeeper Josh Fouts. Max Anton added a goal in the 82nd minute on a counter attack. The Bulls will represent Hawaii in the USYSA Far West regionals.
