BYUH’s Hegedus
up for NCAA
athlete of the year
Brigham Young-Hawaii sophomore Adrienn Hegedus has been named the nominee for NCAA Division II Woman Athlete of the Year.
Hegedus was the only tennis player nominated after leading the Seasiders to a second consecutive national championship and a 37-0 record.
Individually, Hegedus was 31-1 in singles and 26-4 in doubles last year and has never suffered a loss by her team in her two-year career.
The nomination earned $1,000 for the BYUH athletic fund, which can grow to $5,000 if she is named the athlete of the year June 23 in New York.
Berger honored for academics
Hawaii runner Carolyn Berger was named to the Verizon All-District academic second team yesterday.
Berger, who competed for the Wahine in the steeplechase and hurdle events, compiled a 3.92 grade point average in political science.
