‘Tokyo Rose’
seeks isle cash


George Takei, a k a Dr. Sulu on "Star Trek," will executive produce the $5 million independent film "Tokyo Rose," with plans to shoot in Tokyo, San Francisco and Hawaii. The project has raised $1 million and hopes to find additional investors in Hawaii. ...

The Maui Film Festival, happening June 11 to 15, will present actress Geena Davis with its inaugural "Stella Award" that honors a woman for a body of work, and Greg Kinnear gets the first "Navigation" award for a "career of distinction." Also accepting awards will be Anthony Hopkins and Rob Reiner. ...

Filming for "50 First Kisses" wraps Monday, with scenes shot yesterday at the Hawaii Film Studio's main sound stage, then Waikane Pier the rest of the week, and an all-day, all-night shoot at the tiki-themed La Mariana's Restaurant & Bar on Sand Island Access Road. The movie's early wrap party Saturday night was without star Adam Sandler, who reportedly flew to the East Coast on the Sony studio jet to visit an ailing relative. ...

Local-born director Kaya Hatta needs actors (mostly children 9 to15 years of age), experienced crew and interns for her 30-minute PBS film "Fishbowl," an adaptation of Lois-Ann Yamanaka's "Wild Meat and the Bully Burgers." Filming is scheduled for Aug. 4 to 15. The actors must speak fluent pidgin.
