Time extended
to register kids
for arts’ camp

DOES your kid dream about a career in theater or film? Want to give him or her a step up? Deadline for enrolling in a four-week performing arts program at Windward Community College for kids entering fourth to seventh grade has been extended to June 5. The program itself runs June 16 to July 11, Monday through Friday mornings, and is taught by well-known isle teacher and actor Richard MacPherson. His students will receive instruction on character development and the skills to deliver to an audience, culminating in an on-stage production at the state-of-the-art Paliku Theater. MacPherson has appeared in leading roles for a great many isle theater groups, and was most recently in "The Weir" at TAG's Yellow Brick Studio. Cost of the month-long course is just $175, a bargain ...

NICELY tying together her interest in theater and real estate brokering is Lolly Totero. She appeared as Polly, the feisty saloon owner in Diamond Head Theatre's "Crazy for You," and now she's back in New York, juggling a life in the theater, mostly as a dresser, with a career selling real estate to the stars. She'll join Disney's New York production of "Aida" for a five-month run July 1 ...

Broadway babes

Honolulu Cafe in the Dillingham Transportation Building has staged the first of what the owners hope will be many "On Broadway" cocktail parties. At last week's event, three Broadway singers performed with award-winning Broadway guitarist Johan Nilsen. Mesmerizing the crowd were Danielle Mika, Kristian Lei and Kaori Kiana, all with extensive singing credentials, and Samba Brazil. The cafe hopes to stage a similar evening in June ...

INSPIRED by the jazziness of last year's "Chicago," Diamond Head Theatre is holding a fund-raiser Saturday at the Waialae Country Club entitled "Leather, Feathers and All That Jazz." Two cast members from "Chicago," Katie Leiva and Tricia Marciel, will perform and there'll be dancing to Almost Paradise, featuring the talented Sonya Mendez. Call 733-0277, Ext. 305, for reservations ...

SATURDAYS will be a great time to meet at Aloha Tower Marketplace in the evenings. Beginning this week, there'll be free entertainment on the pier. First up is Olomana with Karen Keawehawai'i. June 7 will see Sean Na'auao & Pandanus Club performing, followed on successive Saturdays with Frank DeLima and Marlene Sai, followed by Kapena and Genoa Keawe ...

No biz like Ho biz

WHEN Don Ho puts out an Uncle Sam-like "We want you" request, nobody says no. For Variety Club's Tent 50 fund-raiser June 8 at the Princess Kaiulani, Ho has lined up Henry Kapono, Andy Bumatai, Augie Tulba, Hapa, Reign, Kapena, Karen Keawehawai'i, Tino and the Rhythm Klub, DisGuyz, Mahi Beamer and more. Tickets are $25 and to make reservations call 949-4754. And if that line up, along with Ho, doesn't extend well beyond the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. slate devoted to entertainment, I'll eat my papale ...
