Ching out of
intensive care


Former University of Hawaii volleyball player Tony Ching has been transferred out of the intensive care unit and remains in stable condition recovering from injuries suffered in a recent traffic accident, officials from The Queen's Medical Center said yesterday.

Ching, 22, suffered head, chest and leg injuries when his mo-ped collided with a car near a Makiki intersection last Friday.

Ching, an American Volleyball Coaches Association first-team All-American this past season, averaged 3.7 kills per game this past season, second only to team leader Costas Theocharidis.

Tinman Triathlon entries due Friday

Entries for the upcoming Tinman Triathlon are due Friday. The triathlon will be held July 13 at Ala Moana Beach Park.

The race consists of an 800-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run.

Strikers to hold soccer tryouts in Mililani

The Strikers of Mililani soccer club is accepting applications for 2003-2004 tryouts for players age 6-19.

Registration must be received no later than tomorrow. The tryouts are June 1, 7, 8, and 16 at Acres in Mililani.

Track athletes invited to workout at Kaiser

Track and field athletes interested in practice at the Kaiser High School track can sign up today.

For athletes born between July 1984 and 1990, register at 4 p.m. For those born between 1991 and December 1994, register at 4:30 p.m. For more information, call Steve Jacobson at 377-1814 or Dick Sutton at 373-3633.
