EMBRACING VICTORY OVER CANCER

Doy Pahukoa and Lorna Smith embraced yesterday as Denise Singson waited to give Smith a hug at the end of Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center's Cancer Survivor Day Celebration. Smith just finished her chemotherapy for breast cancer, and Pahukoa had a bone marrow transplant for leukemia six years ago. Singson is also a cancer survivor.

A sunset service was held yesterday at the Pacific War Memorial at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe in honor of Memorial Day. Marine Corps Sgt. Michael Alstad saluted as Marine Corps veterans Donn Lewin, Thomas Kalus and Dick Fiske presented a wreath.
