The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

HEI gets upgrade


Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., which received an analyst upgrade to "in-line" from "underperform" Wednesday by Jonathan Raleigh of Goldman, Sachs & Co., rose 7 percent this week to highlight action among the 12 stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The parent company of American Savings Bank and the operator of the state's largest utility closed yesterday at $44.80.

Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., whose stock inched up .003, was the best performer with an 8.6 percent increase to 3.8 cents.

Barnwell Industries Inc. continued its surge at it gained 5.5 percent to end the week at a 10-year high of $24.
