A GREAT "GAME": Norman M. Munoz, right, congratulated cast members, from left, Moses Goods III, Wil K.T. Kahele, and Moanililia Miller, at the opening night party for Alan Sutterfield's Po'okela Award-worthy new comedy,"King Kalakaua's Poker Game," at Kumu Kahua last Thursday. Munoz and Goods worked together in Kumu Kahua's staging of "To The Last Hawaiian Soldier."

"THE DRIVING LESSON": The legacy of Booga Booga's classic "kanaka komedy" was perpetuated in great style by Ray Bumatai's Mental Tilapia at Brew Moon on Sunday. Among the scripted sketches was one in which a local dad (Bumatai, center) gives his daughter (Stephanie Sanchez) a driving lesson. Garrick Paikai portrayed the hapless vehicle.

BUT THEY DON'T LOOK LIKE TILAPIA!: Head Tilapia Ray Bumatai, center, posed with Garrick Paikai, Stephanie Sanchez, Robb Bonnell, and off-stage advisor R. Kevin Doyle, after the show. The group did a fine job with improv as well as scripted material -- some bits were "local," others mainstream. It was closing night, and Andy Bumatai and Danel Verdugo were in the audience. The group is now working on a television project.
