Yokozuna Asashoryu
still leads by a bout
TOKYO >> Yokozuna Asashoryu beat Wakanosato (7-4) today to remain in first place at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament.
The Mongolian improved to 10-1 and leads two sumotori by a bout.
Ozeki Chiyotaikai beat Tochiazuma (6-5) and Buyuzan bested Akinoshima (5-6) to improve to 9-2. Both are tied for second place. Toki, meanwhile, picked up his first loss to fall out of a tie for second.
Next Asashoryu, who is seeking his third straight Emperor's Cup, meets Tochiazuma (6-5), while Chiyotaikai meets fellow ozeki Dejima (7-4). Buyuzan takes on Tochinonada (6-5).
Yokozuna Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, has yet to recover from surgery on his left wrist and is absent for the fourth straight meet.
