Yokozuna Asashoryu
maintains 1-bout lead


TOKYO >> Yokozuna Asashoryu beat ozeki Dejima today to maintain control of the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament.

The Mongolian, who is the only yokozuna in the tournament, improved to 9-1 and leads three sumotori by a bout. Ozeki Chiyotaikai, Buyuzan and Toki won to improve to 8-2.

Kaio and Wakanosato lost to fall out of a tie for second place.

Next Asashoryu, who is seeking his third straight Emperor'sCup, meets Wakanosato (7-3), while Chiyotaikai meets Tochiazuma (6-4).

Yokozuna Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, has yet to recover from surgery on his left wrist and is absent for the fourth straight meet.
