Kaneohe’s Wilson gets
to play with Annika

Fort Worth, Texas >> Kaneohe native Dean Wilson is about to step into the brightest spotlight of his golf career.

Wilson, a Castle High School graduate, and Aaron Barber will play in the first two rounds of the Colonial tournament with Annika Sorenstam, where she'll become the first woman to play in a men's PGA Tour event in 58 years. The event begins Thursday at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.

"It's a unique experience to be able to play with her in a tournament atmosphere like this," said Wilson, who wore a "Go Annika" button he bought for $3 at Colonial's pro shop.

Wilson and Barber said they look forward to competing with the world's No. 1 female player. They insist they're not concerned about the extra attention from reporters and fans, or the chance Sorenstam could post better scores.

"Anybody can beat me when I play bad," Wilson said.

Their names were selected randomly by a computer. Like Sorenstam, Wilson and Barber were drawn out of the category of players who haven't won or finished in the top 125 on the money list.
