Though you may not know his name, you're still familiar with Jesse Harris. He's one of the musicians who played on Norah Jones' Grammy-award winning debut album and contributed several of his own songs, particularly the megahit "Don't Know Why." The two friends also share a common background in being part of an intimate musicians' scene in New York City that congregate at a club called The Living Room. (By the way, it's worth checking out a fine independent album called "The Living Room, Live in NYC Vol. 1" that contains live selections from both Jones and Harris, with Jones' one song being a live version of Harris' "I've Got to See You Again" that's also on her "Come Away with Me" album.)
The music on Harris' debut album is much in the same vein as Jones' -- a slyly ingratiating one and the kind of album that sneaks up on you with repeated listenings. He has an appealing high and vulnerable voice, as showcased on the intimate "Long Way from Home," the dreamy "How?" and the closing "You, the Queen." The music has a loose, exploratory feel to it, as the title song and the dark and mysterious "The Other Road" shows.
Jones returns the favor by singing and playing piano on "What Makes You," a quiet shuffle about budding love, and lending background vocals on a lovely and understated waltz titled "If You Won't."
Chances are that if you're already a fan of her music, you'll like this album as well.
