UH-Manoa holds spring commencement

More than 1,100 undergraduate students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa participated yesterday in graduation ceremonies at the Stan Sheriff Center. Laura Kammee Arcibal celebrated after receiving her bachelor's degree in biology.

Candace Otsuka carried in a ko'o, one of two designed by UH art students to replace the traditional ceremonial mace. The female ko'o, shown here, symbolizes empowerment and wisdom. The male ko'o represents knowledge and humility.
