Asashoryu still undefeated
as 3 wrestlers drop back

TOKYO >> Yokozuna Asashoryu kept his undefeated record at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament alive today, beating Tamanoshima.

Asashoryu got some help from the field, as three of the five wrestlers within a loss of him dropped matches.

Dejima lost to Tosanoumi, Buyuzan fell to Aminishiki and Kaio upset Wakanosato.

Two others kept pace with Asashoryu, as Chiyotaikai handled Kaiho and Jumonji beat Akinoshima to improve to 6-1.

Asashoryu takes on Kotonowaka (5-2) next, trying to get past the halfway mark unbeaten in his sixth straight basho.

Yokozuna Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, has yet to recover from surgery on his left wrist and is absent for the fourth straight meet. Asashoryu is the only yokozuna.
