The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Bank foes fare well
Central Pacific Financial Corp.'s stock rose 7.8 percent this week while acquisition target CB Bancshares Inc.'s shares inched up 0.7 percent to highlight action in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star Bulletin index.
CPF, which has made two offers to acquire its Honolulu-based rival, ended the week at $27.88 while CB finished at $66.70. CPF has offered roughly $70 a share to acquire its competitor.
Penny stocks had the best and worst performances. Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., rose 25 percent, or .07, to 3.5 cents. Ceatech USA Inc. fell 50 percent, or 15 cents, to 15 cents.
