Sugar ’N Spice
hit the Wave

IT'LL BE A feast for the ears and eyes tonight when "Sugar 'N Spice" gets under way at the Wave Waikiki.

Following in the footsteps of successful all-female events like the Sisters in Sound's "ISIS" and "Escape," and the addition of Kasi Nunes' "Rebel Girl Underground" in Waikiki a few months back, this party features two talented female deejays running things all night long at the "Pussycat Lounge."

Former Hawaii resident DJ Diamond, who has made a name for herself and performed with the likes of DJs Bad Boy Bill, Donald Glaude, Irene and Skribble, returns to throw down a mix of progressive trance. She was here in February at the Maze and had a blast performing for a local crowd. "I think they're great," she said of Hawaii fans last week while relaxing at her father's house on the Leeward side. "The vibe is wonderful and everybody has a great time."

DJ Diamond's partner in crime at "Sugar 'N Spice" is DJ LisaV (formerly known as DJ Daddy's Girl). A former bikini model, LisaV has won just about every title possible on the Honolulu circuit, including Ms. Hawaiian Tropic Hawaii, Ms. Coors Light Hawaii and Ms. Miller Lite Hawaii, and was featured in Playboy last year. (Diamond will be featured later this summer.) She's since hung up her thong, picked up a pair of headphones and become one of Honolulu's more talented female deejays. Expect a tasty mix of underground hip-hop when LisaV gets on the decks tonight.

Doors open at 9 p.m. for "Sugar 'N Spice," and $10 gets you into this 21-and-over event. Call 941-0424, ext. 12 ...

LAST YEAR A 19-year-old kid from Florida took folks in the hip-hop world by surprise when he showed up on B.E.T.'s "106 & Park" program (sort of like "TRL Live") and won their "Freestyle Friday" competition for seven weeks. Jin Au-Yeung, better known as Jin tha MC, proved Asian kids can flow, too (something anyone who's been a part of the underground scene here already knows).

Jin's since signed with the Ruff Ryders and took a role in the sequel to "The Fast and the Furious." He'll be at Pipeline Cafe tomorrow and Thursday for "Next Jinrasian: The Future of Hip-Hop," where a two-round emcee battle is planned. He may also perform a few songs from his album, set for release this summer. Check out www.pipelinecafe.net for more details ...
