Hoku block blowout
The first Hoku Award Nominee Downtown Honolulu Block Party is set for May 23 on Nuuanu Avenue.
Jake Shimabukuro and Sean Na'auau will be among more than a dozen entertainers performing on two stages as celebrants enjoy dancing in the street, food and beverages, all to benefit the Hawaii Academy of Recording Artists.
Events, presented by Murphy's Bar & Grill, along with KINE and KCCN-FM100, will run on Nuuanu from King Street to Nimitz Highway and on Merchant Street from Nuuanu to Bethel streets.
A HARA booth will feature CDs and cassettes by Hoku-winning musicians. Some of the musicians will be available to sign autographs.

Walk to end arthritis
The Arthritis Foundation is holding an "Arthritis Walk," beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday at Pearlridge Center. The 1-mile indoor mall walk will feature music, dancing, clowns and a complimentary breakfast -- all for no registration fee, though walkers are encouraged to raise funds for arthritis research.
Anyone who raises $100 will receive a T-shirt and be eligible for prizes, with the top fund-raiser winning a neighbor island trip for two. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.
According to the foundation, one in four people in Hawaii suffers from one or more of the 120 different kinds of arthritis. Many arthritis sufferers will be walk participants.
Call 596-2900 to register.
