Ellis talks on jury duty

Former director and president of the Honolulu Academy of Arts, George Ellis, will give a free talk 2 p.m. Sunday at the Doris Duke at the Academy, outlining his selection process as juror of the "Artists of Hawai'i 2003" exhibition, opening at the academy next month.

Seating will be available on a first-come basis; no reservations will be taken.

The 53rd "Artists of Hawai'i" is the state's oldest juried exhibition. This year, 967 slides were submitted by 399 artists currently living in Hawaii. From these, approximately 100 works were chosen to be shown during the exhibition, running June 5 through July 27 in the Henry R. Luce Gallery.

Ellis retired Feb. 1 after more than 20 years as director and president of the academy. His replacement is Stephen Little, a former academy curator of Asian art.

For more information on the talk, call 532-8700.
