Star-Bulletin staff
A Tibetan scholar who translates the ancient Buddhist path of wisdom into a guide for the secular Western culture will speak here this month.
Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche will teach from his book, "Turning the Mind into an Ally," which is about meditation as the solution to personal and world suffering. He will start at 4 p.m. May 18 at Windward United Church of Christ, 38 Kaneohe Bay Drive. He will sign copies of his book, which was published in January.
Born in Nepal of Tibetan parents, Rinpoche has lived in North America since age 8. He teaches at the Shambhala International center in Nova Scotia, which was founded by his father, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He is known to his students as the Sakyong, which means "earth protector" in Tibetan.
Tickets are $8 each. For more information, call 262-8352 or 623-5172. The Kailua Shambhala Meditation Group is sponsoring his appearance.
