Wahine use home meet
as UC Irvine warm up


Several Hawaii runners warmed up for tomorrow's meet at UC Irvine by setting personal bests at Wednesday's Sunset Series meet at the UH track.

Both Lana Phillips and Christine Bartlett had P.R.s in the 200-meter dash with Victoria Chang and Jordana Whittington also having season-best times in the 1,500 meters. Phillips and Nicole Wright also posted their best times of spring in the 80- and 100-meter hurdles.

The Wahine will participate in the UCI Steve Scott Invitational tomorrow.

REHAB golf tourney scheduled for May 28

The ninth Annual AT&T Hawaii REHAB Golf Shamble Tournament, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the REHAB Hospital of the Pacific, is set for May 28 at the Hawaii Prince golf club.

The entry fee is $195 per player or $585 per three-person team ($135 tax deductible). The deadline is May 6 and limited to 200 golfers.

A limited number of 50th Anniversary Sponsor Packages are available for $8,050.

Included in the package are two team entries into the shamble tournament and an all-expense paid trip for two to the 2003 AT&T Aloha Section PGA Stroke Play Championship, Sept. 5-7, at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

Ching to start for Earthquakes

Kamehameha Schools graduate Brian Ching has earned a starting job with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.

The Gonzaga graduate, in his third professional season, is playing forward opposite Landon Donovan, a United States national team member.

The Earthquakes' next match is tomorrow when they play the New England Revolution at Foxboro, Mass. The match will be shown live on ESPN2 at 10 a.m.

The Earthquakes are 2-0-1. Ching has scored one goal.
