>> Linda Chock has joined the Polynesian Cultural Center as group sales director. She is responsible for special event planning, sales and representing the company at industry trade shows. She was most recently the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau director of developing international markets.
>> Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort has hired DeAnn Rezentes, Kris Tsunoda, Denise Meyer and Elaine Reed as sales managers. Rezentes will be responsible for local and group market sales. She was previously the Colony Surf Hotel's assistant to the general manager. Tsunoda will manage local catering sales. She was most recently a McNeil Wilson Communications account executive. Meyer will market the hotel as specializing in the wedding market. She was most recently sales manager for the Dole Cannery ballrooms. And Reed will develop corporate and business transient markets. She was previously a sales manager at the Guam Marriott Resort in Tumon.
Promotions
>> Gail U. Renard has been promoted to senior associate at Helber Hastert & Fee Planners. She has focused on environmental, historical and infrastructure research and analysis for land use, facility, transportation and housing projects. She joined the company in 1989 as a planner and has worked as project manager on public and private projects for the state and in the Pacific. The company specializes in land use and environmental planning in the Pacific region.
>> Island Insurance Cos. has promoted Leila L. Cameros from regulatory-rate analyst to regulatory supervisor. She will be responsible for monitoring regulatory compliance issues for the company and helping the personal and commercial insurance divisions with their rate filing efforts. She joined the company in 1986 as a statistical control clerk.
>> City Bank has promoted Yvonne Zimmerman Ono to senior vice president. She will be responsible for overseeing 21 branches, the Customer Service Center and branch operations. She has 15 years of experience at Pioneer Federal Savings Bank and eight years at Fleet Bank in Connecticut.
>> Guardsmark LLC has named Lisa Kowal manager of business development for its Hawaii office. Kowal has worked for the security company since 2001 at branches in Seattle and Nashville, Tenn.

>> First Hawaiian Bank has appointed 19 managers to the 2002 Chairman's Council. They include regional managers Mike Murakoshi from Kauai and Steve Williams Maui, as well as manager Robert Harrison from Kapiolani Banking Center. Area managers are Joy Ching from Kaneohe; Bryan Sakai from Wahiawa; Glenn Goya from Liliha; and Eddie Siu Makiki, Leland Kahawai from Kauai Northeast and Lois Tojio from Aina Haina. Branch managers are Ken Kato from Saipan, Susie Saunders from Kihei, Gayle Pingree from Kahala, Greg Sitar from Waipahu, Jeffrey Ventura from Ward and David Goller from Kapaa, Kauai. Other executives are business banking team leader Ben Akana from the main banking center; sales managers Elaine Asia from Kaneohe and Julie Kim from Hanapepe, Kauai; and private banker Ward Brown from the main banking center.
Recognition
>> The Queen's Medical Center has named J. Edward DeBoard as the 2003 Ke Kauka Pookela Outstanding Physician of the Year. The award recognizes physicians who best exemplify Queen Emma and King Kamehameha's mission to "preserve, protect and perpetuate the health of all the people of Hawaii, recognizing the special health needs of Native Hawaiians." He has received $500 and a commemorative plaque and declaration. Dr. DeBoard donated the check to the nonprofit organization River of Life.
>> Aston Hotels & Resorts Hawaii has named Dennis Costa, general manager of Maui Hill resort, the first recipient of the Doris Oldenburg Memorial Award, formerly the Aston Hawaii General Manager of the Year Award. He was recognized for his commitment to providing leadership and guest service, as well as motivating employees.
