The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Hawaiian rebounds

Hawaiian Holdings Inc., continuing to climb out of a hole it put itself in when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month, ascended 8 percent this week to lead 11 other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The parent of Hawaiian Airlines closed yesterday at 81 cents and now has more than doubled since touching an intraday low of 36 cents on April 15.

City Bank parent CB Bancshares Inc. edged up 0.9 percent to $67.49, just below the original $70 offer price from CPB Inc., as speculation swirled whether the bank would agree to a merger. CPB, parent of Central Pacific Bank, gained 3.6 percent to $25.
