CSI at Kailua library

Honolulu Police Department crime scene investigator David Garber will be at Kailua Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Thursday -- not to solve a crime, but to give a talk on "How Science Solves Crime."

He'll discuss how biology, chemistry, history and mathematics help CSIs close cases.

The free program for ages 12 and up is sponsored by the Friends of Kailua Library. Call 266-9911.

Award dinner set

The fifth annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Awards Dinner set for May 10 will honor two long-standing community members: James McIntosh, chairman of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, who will receive the Charles Reed Bishop Award; and Honolulu Advertiser columnist Bob Krauss, who will receive the Robert J. Pfeiffer Award.

The event will take place at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, beginning at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and cocktails, and end with dancing from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. Entertainers, performing music created by or for the Hawaiian monarchy, are Cathy Foy, Nalani Olds, Misty Tauese, Les Cebalos, the Kamehameha Schools Elementary Jazz Band and the Royal Hawaiian Band.

Tickets start at $200, with proceeds benefiting the museum's education programs. Call 848-4157.
