Hawaii Theatre


A benefit dinner for the Hawaii Theatre takes on the Asian-fusion theme of "Now & Zen." The champagne reception, wine dinner and silent auction take place May 2 at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental.

Chef Wayne Hirabayashi's menu: Seared tofu salad (with Joel Gott Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2002), kiawe-roasted mahimahi (Antinori Badia Reserva Chianti Classico 1997) and a dessert trio of tarte tatin, crème brûlée and rosewater-cardamon ice cream (Perrone Moscato d'Asti 2002).

The silent auction includes a classic 1989 Testarossa Ferrari (valued at $75,000), a vacation to the canals of France and tours of Zen temples, teahouses and gardens. Entertainment will be by taiko drummer Kenny Endo, with dance music by Paradise & Company.

Tables for 10 cost $3,500 to $10,000. A few individual seats are available at $250. Call 791-1301.

Wine dinners

Roy Does the Mediterranean: Chef Ronnie Nasuti offers a six-course menu of Spanish, Italian and Greek dishes paired with wines from the region, 6:30 p.m. April 28, Roy's Hawaii Kai. The menu: Tako Carpaccio (with Zardetto Prosecco), Escabiche of Japanese Mackerel (Encostas Do Lima, Vinho Verde 2002), Kiawe Grilled Scungilli Roasted Vegetable Terrine (Rodrejo Rose 2001), Ravioli of Veal Sweetbreads (La Carletta, Morilino di Scansano 2000), Lamb Roulade and Tomato Eggplant Chutney (Domaine du Gros' Noré, Bandol 1998) and Chocolate Baklava (Domaine La Tour Vieille Banyuls). Meritage and Blended Wine Fest: Pupus, live music and wines from such producers as Franciscan, BV, Guenoc, Estancia and Lyeth will be offered in a tasting, 5:30 p.m. April 28, Meritage in Restaurant Row. Cost is $35. Call 529-8686.

Winemaker Dinner: Rudy Zuidema, winemaker for Robert Craig Wine Cellars, hosts a four-course dinner, 6:30 p.m. April 30, Indigo Eurasian Cuisine. Chef Glenn Chu's menu includes Australian Jumbo Prawns with Dragon Fire Garlic (with 1999 Robert Craig Amador County Zinfandel) and entree of New Zealand Petite Veal Shanks with Lemongrass and Kaffir Lime Sauce (1999 Robert Craig Affinity and 1999 Robert Craig Howell Mountain Cabernet). Ala Moana Hotel: Comedian Andy Bumatai and musician Ells Simeona perform at a buffet lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hibiscus Ballroom. Buffet includes Baron of Beef carving station, salmon and chicken, plus sushi, salad and dessert stations. Cost is $29. Call 955-4811.

Brew Moon: Three-course lunch menu served tomorrow through Friday. Menu consists of a mixed-green salad, entree choice of Cajun Seafood Pastalaya or Black Hole Pork Chop, and dessert of strawberry crepes. Cost is $18.50. Call 593-0088.

Diamond Head Grill: Buffet, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, includes sushi, salads, Lemongrass Crusted Chicken Breast, Grilled Mahimahi, Shichimi Crusted Salmon, Char Siu Pork Tenderloin and Grilled Vegetable Farfalle Pasta. Cost is $25. Call 922-3734.

Orchids, Halekulani hotel: Prix-fixe menu offered tomorrow through Friday. Appetizer choices are Bay Shrimp Seviche with Iced Honeydew Melon or Nalo Greens and Kawamata Tomatoes; followed by entree of Spaghettini and King Crab Meat or Charbroiled Moi. The Ultimate Dessert Buffet includes a daily made-to-order special: Haupia Lemongrass Brulee (Monday), crepe station (Tuesday), Haupia Lemongrass Brulee (Wednesday) and ice cream and sorbet station (Thursday and Friday). Parc Cafe: Buffet, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow through Friday, includes poke, arugula/goat cheese salad, macadamia nut pesto-crusted ahi, eggplant katsu. Dessert station includes lychee, banana and cherry flambés over ice cream. Cost is $19.95. Call 931-6643.

Oldies Night: Elroy Chong hosts music from the '50s and '60s, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, 3660 on the Rise. Buffet dinner includes Herb-Crusted Chicken, Grilled Salmon with Soy Sake Glaze, Pot Roast of Beef Jardinière, Rigatoni with Garden Vegetables. Cost is $25. Call 737-1177.
