Ah Cook calls Ruth’s
Chris his favorite

Paul Ah Cook was welcomed to Ruth's Chris as G.M. Thursday at a reception at the steak house tossed by owner Randy Schoch. "Ruth's Chris has always been my favorite restaurant," Paul said. "I've always entertained here and I'm so pleased to be a part of it." Randy, when asked how he managed to land Paul, laughed and said, "I paid a lot of money." Speaking of money, Randy's restaurant operations here and on the mainland grossed $40 million last year. That's not bad at all for a guy who started out as a bus boy at the old Bistro on Kapiolani ...

Lion in waiting

ANY burglar breaking into Mel and Angie Farber's place is going to be in for a shock because the crook is going to run into a lion. Even though the big animal is stuffed, it'll give anyone a start. This lion killed eight people in a village in Kenya, Mel said. He bought the lion 35 years ago at an auction at Harrod's in London. The Farbers had a party last Saturday night and, besides the lion, entertainment was provided by the Pacifictrades barbershop quartet -- Bobby Ing, Phillip Wee, Jordan Wong and Ken Foreman. So, instead of a housewarming trinket that might end up on a shelf somewhere, they give a gift that lives long after escrow has closed -- a family photo session at La Pietra with Laurie Callies of Baby Face Productions ... It's a wonder that Brenda Burnett finds time to sing and play guitar since she is a triathlon athlete, marathon runner, distance swimmer, massage therapist and single mother of three, but she has a gig April 29 at the Fox & Hound in Kahala ...

Services for Puna Titcomb at Kamehameha Schools Chapel Sunday were upbeat, just the way he would have wanted. Taking part in the ceremony were Puna and wife Elrae's children: Elrae Anne Ouchi, West, Wendell and Herbert, and performers Nina Kealiiwahamana, Boyce Rodrigues, Mahi Beamer, Teresa Bright and Frank DeLima. The service was conducted by Kahu Kordell Kekoa. The eulogy was given by Helen Rauer. Former Mayor Frank Fasi had to leave early. Knowing I was going to speak, he said to tell everyone that Puna did so many things to make people's lives better. I was happy to do so ...
