Easter events featuring
production of Christ’s death

An outdoor performance of the story of Christ's death and resurrection will be presented at 7:30 tonight at the KEY Project in Kahaluu.

About 60 actors, singers and musicians from several Windward churches are participating in "The Witness," the Easter story from the perspective of the apostle Peter. The performance by Pacific Island Praise, directed by Kalani Poomaihealani, at 47-200 Waihee Road is free.

>> Gates will open at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow for the 6:15 a.m. Sunrise Service at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. Information on the event and other sunrise services were published in the April 12 Star-Bulletin and are listed on our Web site starbulletin.com under Features.

Other Easter Sunday events planned by island churches include the following:

>> Waikiki Sunrise Service. A 7 a.m. service on the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel lawn will feature the Pacific Island Praise choir, directed by Kalani Poomaihealani, in a musical enactment of episodes from the life of Jesus.

>> Waipahu Sunrise Service. 677-3317. A 6 a.m. Sunday service on the grounds of Waipahu United Church of Christ, 94-330 Mokuola St. Pastors and musicians from the host church and St. Joseph's Church, Way of Truth Church and Holy Warriors at Work will participate. The offering will benefit the YMCA Communities in Schools program.

>> Central Union Church. 1660 S. Beretania St., 941-0957. A 6 a.m. Sunrise Service on the lawn will be led by church youth. Easter services will be at 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m. with an egg hunt at 9:45 a.m.

>> Apostolic Faith Church. 1043 Middle St., 847-5902. A 10 a.m. Easter program will include a play, "True Love," and music by the youth choir. The 7 p.m. service with the Rev. William Han preaching, will include a healing service.

>> Christ Church Uniting Disciples and Presbyterians. 1300 Kailua Road, 262-6911. The 10 a.m. Easter Day service will be followed by brunch.

>> Honolulu Assembly of God Church. 1007 Koko Head Ave., 737-5789. The Rev. James K. Bridges, general treasurer of the Assemblies of God denomination, will preach at the 10:30 a.m. service tomorrow.

>> St. John Lutheran Church. 1004 Kailua Road, 261-5787. Easter worship will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m., with an egg hunt at 9:15 a.m.

>> Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy. 923-3139. The 10:30 a.m. service at Hilton Hawaiian Village beach will feature vocalist Benedict Palmeri and hula dancer Nancy Rosales, with Alex McAngus preaching.

>> Waipahu United Church of Christ. 677-3317. A 9:30 a.m. family worship will feature the Rev. Chris Eng, the Chancel Choir and the Gospel Hula Halau, with Easter entertainment for children afterwards.
