The Lanakila Center for the Blind has celebrated its grand opening.

The center, a private nonprofit service organization, was established a year ago as a sister organization to the Lanakila Rehabilitation Center. It provides programs and services for adults to help them live independently and improve their quality of life.

The center, at 1809 Bachelot St., is located across from Kuakini Medical Center.

The center has also selected Jeff Segawa as its new program director. Segawa owned his own business operating a snack shop at Tripler Army Medical Center and has gained knowledge in working with nonprofit organizations during his time spent at Makaala Inc.

The organization provides retail and service opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
