It took a while, but Hawaii finally registered a Western Athletic Conference softball sweep over Nevada.
UH's first home WAC game was halted in the third inning on Thursday because of lightning at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The game was completed last night, with UH winning 3-0, and the Rainbow Wahine won the second game 3-1 to to improve to 4-2 in the WAC, 23-16 overall.
Melissa Coogan (18-9) went the distance for the Rainbow Wahine in both games.
In the first game, Coogan scattered six hits while striking out six and walking one.
Coogan pitched seven more innings in Game 2, giving up a run on just three hits. She struck out five and walked one.
UH scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning in Game 1, with Trisha Ramos driving home the first two runs with a double.
Before the big inning, Nevada's Candice Rainwater had held UH at bay on just three hits.
The Rainbow Wahine jumped out in front quickly in Game 2, as Stacey Porter ripped a run-scoring triple down the right field line and scored on a wild pitch.
April Crowell added an insurance run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
UH pounded Robyn Ford-Feittz and Judith van Kampen for 11 hits. Tracie Uchima was 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot and Denise Dahlberg was 2-for-4 with a run scored from the No. 2 spot.
With two more wins Coogan will become just the second UH pitcher in the past four seasons to reach 20 victories (Felicity Witt had 22 wins in 2001).
